Importance of Makkah to Muslims Print PDF

Q 10: How important is Makkah to the Muslim world?

A: Allah has made Makkah a place of resort for mankind and a place of safety and a holy sanctuary where pilgrims and scholars can gather to perform the rituals of Hajj and ‘Umrah (lesser pilgrimage) in an atmosphere of comfort and tranquility, hoping for Allah’s Reward and fearing His Punishment (Glorified be He). It is a place where Muslims get to know one another, and advise and consult one another over matters related to their religious and worldly life. It is also a place where the reward for performing Salah (Prayer) and righteous deeds is multiplied.

May Allah grant us success! May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions!

Prohibition of Differences and Ikhtilaafaat

by Shaykh 'Abdullaah Ibn Abdur-Rahmaan Al-Jarboo (حفظه الله تعالى)
on Saturday, August 22nd, 2004

The Shaykh 'Abdullaah Al-Jarboo (حفظه الله تعالى) is a learned scholar from Saudi Arabia, a professor at the Islaamic University in Madeenah Al-Munawwarah (الجامعة الإسلامية بالمدينة المنورة). Perhaps those of you who listen to ‘Ilm-Online have heard many of his lectures. May Allaah سبحانه وتعالى reward him tremendously for being with us today.

Introduction

The Shaykh ‘Abdullaah Al-Jarboo حفظه الله تعالى proceeded: In previous lessons we discussed that eemaan (الإيمان – faith) increases and decreases depending on each person. Mankind differs in the amount of eemaan which they possess. The level of one’s eemaan is determined by:
  • What is in one’s heart i.e. what is in one’s heart from knowledge (علم – ’ilm), belief (اعتقاد – al-I’tiqaad) and love (محبة – mahabbah). One person may have more love for Allaah سبحانه وتعالى and His messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم than another, so the degree of love will be stronger from one individual to another. Similarly the belief will be more correct in one individual as compared to another, and one individual may have a stronger volition than another to choose what is good. All of these qualities are from the actions of the heart.

  • One’s actions i.e. the actions of the individual in his commitment to performing good/righteous actions; e.g. when he does good actions such as prayer (الصلاة – salaah), fasting (الصوم – sawm) and pilgrimage (الحج – Hajj), and leaves off the bad ones.

  • One’s speech i.e. one must engage in good speech and busy one’s tongue with reciting the Qur’aan, remembering Allaah سبحانه وتعالى, saying good things (الكلام الحسن – alkalaamul hasan) and other than that from the acts of obedience. All these things as well as leaving off ill sayings will increase one’s eemaan.

Building and Maintaining the Houses of Allaah

By Shaykh Abdullaah Al-Jarboo حفظه الله

Delivered on Saturday 29th November 2008

INTRODUCTION

Dear brothers and sisters, we at al-Quraan was-Sunnah Society of New York, Masjid Ahlul-Quraan was-Sunnah, albaseerah.org welcome you all to our live lectures with the Scholars and Mashaa’ikh of Ahlus-Sunnah Wal-Jamaa`ah. It pleases us very much to resume our intensive courses and special sessions by the Scholars which will take place on a regular basis. Please visit our website www.albaseerah.org for details and the schedule.

Dear brothers and sisters, those of us who don’t own a home are always exploring the opportunities to buy our own home; and those who are blessed with their own home spend a lot of money making sure that their homes are kept safe, clean, tidy and beautiful. But when it comes to the house of Allaah, a place where the believers come to worship the Creator of the heavens and the earth, it is expected that the believers would race against each other to build the houses of Allaah. We see that every single believer would do whatever it takes to construct and furnish the houses of Allaah سبحانه وتعالى.

Dear brothers and sisters, we at Masjid Ahlul-Quraan was-Sunnah believe it is our duty to serve our community in the best manner possible. We have a strong desire to educate, cultivate and unite our community upon the Qur’aan and Sunnah. We want to take care of your needs and live up to your expectations. To accomplish this goal, it pleases me very much to inform you that inshaa’Allaah we will be moving to a better and bigger location. Alhamdulillaah, we are negotiating the contract for a new building and major renovation is going to take place soon inshaa’Allaah. But we are in need of Allaah’s help and tawfeeq, so please continue to make du`aa (supplication).

Dear brothers and sisters, in addition to your du`aa we are also in need of your financial help. We have strong faith in you and we know that as always, you are going to do your best to play a major role in building this masjid, a House of Allaah عز وجل.

Alhamdulillaah, Allaah has opened the doors of sadaqatun-jaariyah (on-going charity) for you so that you list yourself among those who will inherit a nice home in Jannah inshaa’Allaah, as the Rasoolullaah صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “Whoever builds a masjid for Allaah ta`aalaa, seeking the Face of Allaah, Allaah will build for him a house in Jannah.”[1] So here is an opportunity for you so that Allaah can build a home for you in Jannah.

The `Uloo (Transcendency) of Allaah

By: Shaykh Dr. Saalih As-Saalih رحمه الله تعالى
Delivered on May 21st, 2005

Our Shaykh’s Introduction and Khutbatul-Haajah

Our Shaykh – May Allaah shower him with Mercy – began with the Name of Allaah, praising and thanking Him سبحانه وتعالى and sending the salaam and salawaat on our Prophet Muhammad, his family and Companions. He clarified the amount of time that he spent seeking knowledge from our Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih al-`Uthaymeen رحمه الله تعالى. It began as long distance at first, and then on a discontinuous basis from 1412 to 1415 after the Hijrah of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم and then on a regular basis from 1415 H until his death, may Allaah’s Mercy be upon him.

The title of this lecture is: The `Uloo (Transcendence) of Allaah, the Lord of all that exists: Refuting doubts and misconceptions as is evident from the Qur’aan, the authentic Sunnah, the belief of the Sahaabah and their followers, and the attestation of the ingrained nature and intellect.

All praise is due to Allaah; we praise Him and seek His Help and His Forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allaah the Most High from the evils of our own selves and from our wicked deeds. Whomsoever Allaah guides no one can lead astray and whomsoever Allaah leads astray cannot be guided. I testify that there is no true god worthy of being worshipped except Allaah Alone without partner or associate, and I further testify that Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم is His Slave and Messenger. May Allaah’s salaah and salaam also be granted to the Prophet’s household and to all of his noble Companions.

{O you who believe! Fear Allaah (by doing all that He has ordered and by abstaining from all that He has forbidden) as He should be feared. [Obey Him, be thankful to Him, and remember Him always], and die not except in a state of Islaam (as Muslims) with complete submission to Allaah.}  [Aal-`Imraan 3:102]

Ramadhaan 1429 Question and Answer Session #2

by Shaykh Ali ibn Abdur-Rahmaan Al-Hudhayfi (حفظه الله تعالى)

on Saturday, September 6th, 2008

Introduction to the Shaykh

Today we are blessed to have with us our honourable Shaykh, a well known scholar from Madeenah, Shaykh Dr. Ali Ibn Abdur-Rahmaan Al-Hudhayfi حفظه الله. He is a well known scholar of the Qur’aan and a famous recitor who is well-known throughout the world. He is the imaam and khateeb of the Prophet's masjid as well as a professor at the Islaamic University of Madeenah.

We thank him for making himself available, and we ask Allaah to reward him tremendously. Before he answers your questions which were posted on our forum at albaseerah.org, he will give a short naseehah (advice) about this blessed month.

Advice of The Shaykh

The Shaykh حفظه الله began by praising Allaah سبحانه وتعالى the Lord and Owner of everything in existence, and by sending the salaat and the salaam upon the final Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم. He then said:

I extend greetings to you from this blessed place, a greeting that Allaah سبحانه وتعالى legislated for the Muslims, a greeting in which there is peace, safety, goodness and blessings Assalaamu `Alaykum wa Rahmatullaahi Wa Barakaatuh. I ask Allaah سبحانه وتعالى to accept from me, you and the rest of the Muslims the fasting during this month of Ramadhaan.

In this month Allaah سبحانه وتعالى has decreed that I have a meeting with you the Muslims in the United States, through a tele-link. This is from the blessings of Allaah that He bestowed upon us; it is upon us to use the blessings of Allaah in pleasing Him, for indeed if you were to try and count the amount of blessings that Allaah سبحانه وتعالى has blessed us with, you will not be able to count them. If the servants of Allaah سبحانه وتعالى were to use these blessings in obedience to Allaah, in worshipping Him, and with what benefits them in their Deen (religion) and their dunyaa, then indeed they would be content in the life of this world and successful in the life of this world as well as in the Hereafter. However, Allaah سبحانه وتعالى states in the Qur’aan,

وَقَلِيلٌ مِنْ عِبَادِيَ الشَّكُورُ

{But few of My slaves are grateful.} [As-Saba’ 34:13]

The path to traverse in order to understand the Qur’aan and memorize it

by Shaykh Abdullaah al-Ghudyaan,
on Saturday, January 5th, 2008

The Shaykh حفظه الله began in the Name of Allaah and by praising Allaah سبحانه و تعالى and sending the salaat and salaam upon our Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم, his family members and all his Companions رضي الله عنهم أجمعين.

This subject consists of clarifying the stages which one must traverse in order to gain a thorough understanding of the Book of Allaah سبحانه وتعالى. It also entails a discussion of the various books which an individual must utilize in order to aid his understanding the Book of Allaah, as well as the other sciences which will contribute to a better understanding.

FIRST STAGE – SELECT A TOPIC AND IDENTIFY THE AAYAAT DEALING WITH THAT TOPIC

One must specify a group of aayaat on a particular topic. For example, if you look at Suratul-Baqarah, you will find that it deals with many topics. It contains statements on: eemaan (belief), kufr (disbelief), nifaaq (hypocrisy), likewise ahlul Kitaab (the People of the Book), Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah), siyaam (fasting), talaaq (divorce), ribaa (interest), mudaayanaat (blood money and debts) and other subjects.

The individual must identify the aayaat which discuss one topic. This is the first phase. It is possible to seek help from some of the books of Tafseer and likewise some of the masaahif. There are some masaahif in which the topics are identified; and some books of Tafseer which specify the aayaat which discuss a particular subject e.g. Tafseer ibn Katheer which identifies the aayaat which speak about a single topic, and there are many books of Tafseer which do this.

by Shaykh Ahmad Al-Munayee حفظه الله
on Saturday, March 24th, 2007

Introduction to the Shaykh

We are once again honoured by the presence of our Noble Shaykh Dr. Muhammad Amhad al-Munayee حفظه الله تعالى. Currently he is a Professor at the Muhammad ibn Sa’ud University in Riyadh. He is a well-known scholar and studied under many mashaykh. He is very active in many Da’wah efforts. We ask Allaah to increase him in knowledge and may Allaah bless him in his efforts and place this in his scale of good deeds.

Shaykh’s Introduction

Shaykh Ahmad حفظه الله after praising Allaah سبحانه و تعالى and sending the salaat and the salaam upon the Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم said: Assalaamu ‘Alaikum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh. O my brothers and sisters in Islaam, indeed the most tremendous bounty which Allaah سبحانه و تعالى has given to his slave is that He guided them and gave them success in learning His Religion, and seeking knowledge of this Religion from those who inherit this knowledge from the Prophets and Messengers. This is tawfeeq from Allaah سبحانه و تعالى and likewise the fact that Allaah سبحانه و تعالى has brought about those people who will make this tareeq (طريق) – this path of seeking knowledge easy for you. Allaah سبحانه و تعالى has provided for you through those who are responsible for this Dawrah al-‘Ilmiyyah i.e. Knowledge-based Seminar, a way to learn the Religion of Allaah سبحانه و تعالى.
